Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative knows that our members occasionally fall on hard times. If you are having a difficult time paying your bill because you recently lost your job or are dealing with unforeseen illness or another issue out of your control, please contact the office at 607-776-4161 or 1-800-843-3414.
Depending on the status of your account, you might be eligible for a payment arrangement. We've also compiled a list of government and charitable organizations in our region that offer assistance with utility bills, if their conditions are met. We encourage members to contact them to determine resources that may be available. The assistance programs are listed below:
Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
The 2018-2019 Regular HEAP benefit opens November 13, 2018 and is scheduled to close on March 15, 2019.
HEAP is a federal grant program that helps eligible households pay for energy costs and weatherization. Income eligible members may receive one regular HEAP benefit per season. Contact your county's department of social services for more information.
The 2018-2019 Emergency benefit opens January 2, 2019 and is scheduled to close on March 15, 2019.
In addition to regular HEAP, you may also be eligible for emergency HEAP benefits. The number of emergency benefits varies per season depending on the availability of funds.
Funding is limited. HEAP funding is limited so it is important to apply early. If you received any type of Social Security benefit or if you are 60 years of age or older, call your local Office of the Aging and an application may be mailed to you.
